iSwim Learn To Swim Pathway

The iSwim Learn to Swim Pathway is produced by the ASA and is an all-inclusive programme which takes the non-swimmer from his or her first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water.

LTS-Skyscraper

With adult support, this is a fun and secure way for young children to be introduced to the swimming environment to develop water confidence.

For children aged 6 months - 3 years.

Develop basic safety awareness, basic movement and water confidence, as well as working on water skills.

Pupils must have attended Adult & Child lessons.

For children aged 3 years+.

Develop basic safety awareness, basic movement and water confidence, as well as working on water skills.

For children aged 4 years+ in full time education.

Developing basic safety awareness for older children who are not able to swim, they will build up basic movement and water confidence, as well as working on water skills to achieve Stage 3 of the ASA pathway.

For children aged 8 years+.

Aiming to travel 5m with aids on front and back with confidence. Introducing water safety, submersion and floating.

For children aged 5 years+.

Working on rotation, push and glides, travelling 5m using arms without the use of aids. Aim to be confident on front and back without the use of any swimming aids.

Participation-Skyscraper

Working towards 10m front crawl and backstroke, developing breaststroke. As well as working on skills such as treading water and rotation.

Introduction of sculling, complete rotation as well as deep water skills. Aiming towards 15m front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.

Developing all strokes to ASA standard over a 10m distance. Introducing lifesaving skills, as well as working towards 25m award.

Achieving Competent to swim test, increasing distance and stamina within swimming, as well as developing water survival skills.

Provides a fun and safe way to learn lifesaving skills and water safety. A natural progression from Stage 7 onwards, swimmers progress from Bronze to Gold levels.

The scheme can be started at any level - each activity is simply signed off by the swim teacher when successfully completed.

For children aged 8 - 12 years.

Working towards maintaining all strokes to ASA standard over 25m. Developing new skills to move into competitive swimming or lifesaving skills.

Once you develop the core range of skills, you have the choice to take part in different aquatic disciplines including Stages 8 – 10, Elite, Rookie Lifeguard & Survive and Safe.

Working on Stages 8-10, focusing on maintaining ASA standard strokes over greater distances, using starts and turns correctly.

Elite squad, for all swimmers who have completed stages 8-10, who wished to continue with their swimming skills focusing on maintaining ASA standard strokes over greater distances, completing set drills/sets in the required time period.

Provides a fun and safe way to learn lifesaving skills and water safety. A natural progression from Stage 7 onwards, swimmers progress from Rookie Lifesaving to achieving National Pool lifeguard Qualification.

The scheme can be started at any level - each activity is simply signed off by the swim teacher/TA when successfully completed.

For those aged 12 - adult.
