Support Thurrock Community Leisure & help make a difference

Thurrock Community Leisure (operating as Impulse Leisure) is the charity providing our local community with opportunities to improve and maintain their physical and mental health and wellbeing in a covid-19 secure environment.

One of the biggest ways we can achieve our goal of creating active and healthy communities is through our extensive range of charitable projects, which supports the health and wellbeing of our community for free or at an affordable low cost rate. Any future funds raised will cover the costs of supplies, training, staff, hire space, equipment and sponsored spaces*.

However, the long term impact of the coronavirus pandemic has left us, as a charity in a vulnerable position where the future of these amazing charitable projects are in jeopardy.

We need our communities support now more than ever, in order to continue providing these projects...

Grub-Club-2

Grub Club

Did you know that over 3 million children in the UK are at risk of going hungry during the school holidays? Through our charitable project, Grub Club, we aim to be part of the solution to reduce this number.

Working in partnership with Active Essex, our Grub Club sessions offer children aged 7-13 years the opportunity to take part in games and fun activities as well as receiving a healthy and nutritional meal from our catering team. These sessions run throughout the school holidays and are available to those who are eligible for free school meals.

Our current Grub club session are currently funded and available till February 2021. With donations raised we hope to extend this program for all school holidays.

GP Health Referral Scheme

Simon Stevens, CEO of the NHS has been quoted saying that physical activity is a miracle cure, no other medication or drug prevents and cures more conditions. Our extensive GP Health Referral Schemes prevent, maintain and cure illness, injury and mental health conditions.

This vital resource for our community is accessible through GPs, Physiotherapists and other health professionals. Our fully qualified and experienced team deliver specific group sessions for a number of interventions to help local people exercise under qualified guidance whilst also benefiting from social interaction with people in a similar situation. These sessions have proved invaluable for these patients wellbeing and helps relieve strain on our NHS.

These essential services, which Thurrock Community Leisure provide, will be crucial in the continued fight against Coronavirus, both during and after the Covid-19 pandemic and we are going to play our part in reducing the local communitys vulnerability as research has proven that 75% of people who have been hospitalized with Covid-19 were overweight or obese and at risk of becoming lonely from social isolation.

Obesity is one of the biggest health crises the country faces. Almost two-thirds (63%) of adults in England are overweight or living with obesity and 1 in 3 children leave primary school overweight or obese, with obesity-related illnesses costing the NHS £6 billion per year.

Living with excess weight puts people at greater risk of serious illness or death from COVID-19, with risk growing substantially as body mass index (BMI) increases. Nearly 8% of critically ill patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units have been morbidly obese, compared with 2.9% of the general population.

We want to continue to be there for those who have suffered during the pandemic and are living with the long term health effects of the virus. Our GP Health Sessions are essential to combat this and without the ongoing support from our community we will not be able to provide these fantastic health schemes.

"Losing weight is hard but with some small changes we can all feel fitter and healthier. If we all do our bit, we can reduce our health risks and protect ourselves against coronavirus as well as taking pressure off the NHS." Boris Johnson British PM
