Should you be keeping your kids moving over summer?
Kids just love to move around, especially after spending hours sat down at school. Or at least…they used to.
Since the dawning of the computerised technology, it’s become increasingly common for children to busy themselves with laptops, smartphones and tablets instead of physical activity. Sadly, this is something that has correlated in a parallel way with declining health trends.
The importance of staying active
Studies published by the British Heart Foundation in 2015 show that 33 per cent of all children aged 10 years suffer from being overweight. Furthermore, only 21 per cent of boys and 16 per cent of girls meet the physical activity guidelines of being active for at least an hour a day.
Thankfully, the need to move children away from the TV is something that is becoming more and more apparent. Spending a great deal of time on the sofa simply does not impact well on their health.
Keeping kids physically active not only prevents obesity, it strengthens muscles and bones, aids better sleep and encourages a more positive outlook. Healthy, active kids are more motivated, more alert and tend to perform better in their studies.
Fun in the sun
The summer holidays are the perfect opportunity to encourage your children to go outside and burn off any pent-up energy.
A great way to do this is to get them involved in a holiday club! Holiday clubs are a fantastic opportunity for kids to make friends, discover new interests, improve their social skills and boost their self-confidence.
Whizz Kids at Impulse Leisure takes place between July 24th and September 3rd at Chanctonbury and Southwick Leisure Centre. Our qualified staff can keep your children entertained throughout the day with a huge range of activities, such as:
- Team sports
- Dance and drama
- Treasure hunts

And lots more. In fact, there are over twenty different activities for your kids to choose from! Get in touch with your local reception to find out more.
