If you’re aged 40 to 74, you can get your free NHS Health Check by simply contacting us.
FREE HEALTH CHECKS IN THURROCK
Through Impulse Leisure, you can now request a free NHS Health Check in Thurrock, Essex. For adults aged 40 to 74 who have not had a stroke or pre-existing health condition, the health checks can help spot early signs of kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and more.

WHAT HAPPENS AT YOUR NHS HEALTH CHECK
At your NHS Health Check, a healthcare professional will carry out tests to look for early signs of several conditions. The check will take around 20 to 30 minutes.
It’s unlikely you will be diagnosed with a health condition, so don’t worry, but remember that prevention is key and could save your life.
If the health check uncovers any issues, you will be offered advice and support, including:
- Helping you stop smoking
- Working with you to improve your diet and manage cholesterol
- Reduce your blood pressure
- Manage your weight
- Be more active
- Reduce your stress
- Reduce the amount of alcohol you drink

FREE NHS HEALTH CHECK ELIGIBILITY
You’re entitled to a free NHS Health Check if you haven’t had one in the last five years.
You are not eligible if you have been diagnosed and/or taking medication for:
- Atrial fibrillation
- Chronic kidney disease that’s classified as stage 3, 4 or 5
- Coronary heart disease
- Diabetes
- Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Previous diagnosis of heart failure
- Previous diagnosis of stroke
- Previous diagnosis of transient ischaemic attack (mini-stroke)
- Medication prescribed for lowering cholesterol
The programme aims to save lives. The free health checks could:
- Prevent 1,600 heart attacks and strokes per year
- Prevent 4,000 people a year from developing diabetes a year
- Detect 20,000 cases of diabetes or kidney disease each year
- Avoid at least 650 premature deaths a year
