Belhus Community Garden

Spending time in nature is a vital aspect of both physical and mental health, in fact, one study found that people who spend an average of two hours or more per week in nature over a year are more likely to report being in good, or very good, health. This health boost can be calculated in terms of the number of years of life lived in perfect health. We can then put a monetary value on this by estimating how much it would cost the NHS to provide the equivalent health benefits. This is thought to be around £356 per person (aged 16 years and over).

Spending time in nature not only has benefits for your physical health but your mental health too. Benefits include:

  • Improve your mood.
  • Reduce feelings of stress or anger.
  • Feeling more relaxed.
  • Help you be more active.
  • Helps you meet and get to know new people.
  • Connects you to your local community.
  • Reduce loneliness.
  • Helps you feel more connected to nature.
  • Provides peer support.

At Belhus Park, Impulse Leisure has created and is running a community garden to be enjoyed by all. Community gardens serve as vibrant hubs for people to connect, both with each other and nature, as well as offering a delightful space for relaxation. Tending to a garden, watching it flourish, or simply soaking in the greenery can work wonders for your overall well-being, promoting both physical and mental health.
